Initial Session Request If you are reading this page, you may well be considering an initial online counseling session with Open Mind Counseling.
To begin your initial session you need to:
A) Read this whole page.
B) Consider the issue of user identity. Along with the name you use for therapeutic email communication, which can be your real name, a user name or anything you choose, you may choose to also include a private/secret codename as well. This codename can be anything you want and is used to help ensure continuity of client identity. If so chosen, every communication thereafter must include the codename along with your personal name/username. If so chosen, any email received without the codename will be viewed as an imposter; one email response will be sent alerting you to this fact. No email response addressing the content of your email will be sent without the codename. The codename is not a requirement. It is recommended to help insure privacy, security, confidentiality and continuity of client identity.
C) Recognize that in sending your initial email, you acknowledge that:
1) you have read the Code of Ethics and understand your rights of confidentiality and privacy. The link to the Code of Ethics page can be found on the menu at the left..
2) you are 18 years of age or older.
3) If you are initiating a session for a minor and you are the parent or legal guardian, you must first email Open Mind Counseling at counselor@openmindcounseling.com and provide the name and email address of the minor along with a statement of your consent for service. You must also include a telephone number where you can be reached to verify consent.
4) You have been alerted to the issue of Internet security and have been advised on the need for antivirus, antispam, antihacker and firewall software for your computer. You have been advised of a free, secure web based email system (www.safe-mail.net or www.hushmail.com)
5) You understand that despite safeguards such as security software and passwords, internet confidentiality cannot be absolutely guaranteed.
6) Open Mind Counseling reserves the right to refuse participation in communication which is not deemed therapeutic.
7) Open Mind Counseling is not liable for how individuals respond to or utilize information presented during therapeutic communications.
8) Open Mind Counseling may present case information to professional peers for consultation. In such instances, no identifiable client information is disclosed.
